We are excited to introduce you to our new social media intern Fallon Roberts! Fallon will be interning with us for the first quarter of the calendar year and for the Triangle Yoga Festival! As soon as we met Fallon, we knew that she was a perfect fit: she is energetic, well rounded, loves yoga, and has a passion for design and dance. That fits right in line with our values and what we look for in people to join our team.
To start off with our introduction, check out our latest Instagram post with Fallon's introduction reel! If you keep scrolling below, you can read more about Fallon in a Q & A style:
Interview with Fallon: Peak Fit Events Social Media Intern
Q: Hey Fallon! What are you super passionate about
Wow, so much! I'd have to say it comes down to songwriting, design, art and movement. Without those things, I don't think I'd be who I am today.
Q: What are three things that you can't live without
Chapstick, comfort food, and something to write with.
Q: What do you love most about social media and what do you dislike most about it?
This is a great question and something I think about almost every day. I'd have to say that social media is great for connecting us to people with similar interests. There's nothing like scrolling through your timeline and seeing someone who is just as interested in that one little quirky niche you picked up years ago!
But with everything in life there is an opposite, and I think I most dislike the way that social media can do this weird thing to our brains that makes us feel the need to compare ourselves to each other or perform. It can get difficult to decipher what is authentic and what isn't.
Q: What is a typical day in the life for you?
I love early starts. That means I'm up before the sun, love breakfast, and need coffee. I try to hit the yoga mat before anything else. After that, me and my dog go out for a walk. He's a good boy. (FYI, we love dogs)
Then I head to my job where I teach K-5 children movement (dance & yoga) and digital art. Some evenings I teach a private guitar lesson. Then I'm off to GGD (Gym, Grocery, Dinner). That pretty much sums it up. Soon I'll be throwing school somewhere in the mix!
Q: You went to the Triangle Yoga Festival last year, what are you most excited about for this year?
Yes! It was so cool to be there. That was by far THE MOST yoga I have done in one day. I'm most excited to explore what new classes will be available. I am also anticipating the opening ceremony and sound bath. And let's be honest, the food too!
Q: What do you currently do and how has that shaped your life outlook
This response had me snapping my fingers! Because this answer is IT! I really love Fallon put this in words. Authenticity and Transparency is important to the Triangle Yoga Festival and with this answer, you can see why we chose her as our intern.
Well, I do A LOT--from teaching to being in a band, to being a student and working on passion projects. I've learned that I have the power to choose my path, and I find freedom in knowing I have just that--the power to choose and to execute anything I want. Teaching has taught me patience and compassion.
Being in a band has taught me to speak my mind and be a leader. Being a student has taught me project/time management and how to be my own advocate. I'm currently working on a passion project dealing with vintage fashion/design. It's taught me to not limit my capabilities and trust my own vision/intuition.
All of these opportunities remind me that life is about honoring who we are, being authentic and intentional in all things you do, and in doing that, it gives others permission to be themselves. Hopefully they will be inspired by you and do great things as well. We all deserve to exist in that energy.
Q: What do you want to do in the future
As far as my career, I'd love to be a part of a team of designers that focus on creative direction and brand development. For my personal life, I'd love to travel and live abroad for a bit. I also want to become a certified yoga practitioner and teacher.
Q: What brought you to yoga?
The yoga and accessibility connection:
From age 3-11 I was a gymnast and from 11-18 I was a cheerleader. After stopping cheer, I realized that my body was craving some sort of physical activity.
I didn't have access to either sport, so I began doing home workouts using the NIKE Training App. One day they updated their app to include yoga practices with real teachers. I found Alex Silver Fagan and Jonah Kest.
Following their yoga flows really inspired me to wind down and look within. It was so nice finding a practice that helped me to engage my body and was low impact. Transitioning into this mindful practice was easy, because of my older sister.
She became a massage therapist and reiki master around this time. I naturally involved myself in studying crystals, meditation, and soon after, yoga. From there it was clear that my path was made. Yoga has been one of my favorite ways to tune into myself, decompress, and even heal.
Q: What's your favorite yoga pose?
Utthita Trikonasana (Extended Triangle Pose)
Q: Would you rather do yoga in person or online?
Tough. I'd say both. I enjoy yoga most when I'm in the comfort of my own home, but I do enjoy those moments of community when I'm at an in-person class.
